Combining the unique transport qualities of the Segway with the beauty of San
Francisco, these tours provide an entirely new way to experience the city by
the bay. Travel professionals are invited to be our guests on our innovative,
safe, and memorable tours of San Francisco's waterfront. For Travel Media, Travel
Writers and Tour Operators your tour and training are paid by San Francisco
Electric Tour Company, which pioneered the tour in San Francisco and is the
only company offering it in the city. Individual travel agents receive a 25%
discount.
What is a Segway?
First introduced in 2003, the Segway is an electric transport mechanism that
is guided by the rider's natural motions for forward and backward maneuvering.
It easily navigates most walkable areas, including paved surfaces, dirt roads,
grass, and inclines. Virtually anyone can operate a Segway and enjoy these tours—ages
12 to 65 are welcome (as long as riders are over 100 pounds and less than 250
pounds). Our 20 to 30 minute training on how to operate the Segway ensures that
riders safely explore the San Francisco waterfront.
What's on the FAM tour?
Our tours are ideal for convention groups, families, perfect for couples, and
simply great fun for everyone. The tours pack the best of Fisherman's Wharf
into an exciting and scenic 2 ½ to 3 hours. We begin at Fisherman's Wharf
and cover the Cable Car turnaround, Ghirardelli Square, National Maritime Museum
and the historic sailing ships, Fort Mason (former military base, now a historic
landmark) and Marina Green. Tours include views of Alcatraz Island,Golden Gate
Bridge and Historic Waterfront. Refreshment breaks and photo stops are included.
Who is encouraged to take the FAM tour?
Travel writers and other travel media along with tour operators and travel sales
staff are welcome. We have a limited amount of availability for each day. The
tours are an excellent way for groups or families planning activities they can
do together while in San Francisco. The photo opportunities are endless—Segways
look like fun because they are!
How do you make reservations?
From March September departures are 9:15 am and 1:15 pm . April
until October (Summer and Fall) departures are 9:00 am, 12:45
pm and 4:30 pm daily. Other times can be arranged as necessary. If
